That's what they tell you, and what they told me as well, but... I worked in London Science Museum for two months last summer (yeah, in the UK), and was suprised to find out it's actually exactly the same language, maybe with a slight accent. Furthermore (again, I was surprised to find this out myself) - Europe actually speaks American English for the most part (at least France, Germany, Spain and all of business environment). A couple of my friends (from the US) that I worked with in London went to Ireland over our break (most of us just stayed in London and drank like fish) - and again, were surprised to hear the same language there as well. It may be that certain dialects of British English remain in fairly remote counties in Britain (like the countryside maybe) - but even in Britain the so-called British English is really quite rare.
